Being a die-hard fan all my life, I had always wanted to take on the Doctor Who title sequence as a project. So, with a new Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) about to reboot the show, I thought I'd take the opportunity to do it. Creating everything from scratch, including diving into Cinema4D to create the TARDIS and logo, my small dream side project started.
The bulk of the sequence was used using Maxon's TOA plugin. I created a diamond shaped vortex and flew a camera through it. The diamond concept came from the iconic logo that has recently been brought back by the BBC. Using a lot of cameras and the 3D space, I added my own nebulas and stars using plug-ins such as Video Copilot's Optical Flares and Saber. As well as Particular for stars and the regeneration energy logo entrance. There is no stock footage in the sequence, I wanted to make sure that every part of it was created by me.
The biggest learning curve was using Cinema4D and Redshift, which I had previously only touched the basics of. I thought the build of the TARDIS and logo went very well, and I learnt a lot while doing it. Especially in texturing using nodes and the render settings.
